High Schools


Holy Heart of Mary Graduation photos are being taken the week of February 13th to February 17th. The link to book a time can be found on the schools website.

Holy Heart of Mary students interested in designing the 2023 Grad hoodie this year, must have the design into Mrs. Slaney-Howell today (January 31st).

Grade 12 students at Prince of Wales Collegiate are reminded to drop by the main office to check your scheduled appointment date & time for your cap & gown photos.

Prince of Wales Collegiate students interested in playing on the Badminton team are asked to sign the sheet outside of Mr. Laing's office. tryouts will start today (January 31st) at 3:00. pm

There will be a Waterford Valley High Reach for the Top meeting on Thursday (February 2nd) at noon.
All interested students are invited to attend.


Junior High Schools


Leary's Brook Junior High's School Merch store is now open until Friday (February 3rd).

Macdonald Drive Junior High's French Department is planning a trip to Quebec City and Montreal for May 2024. The trip is open to grade 8 and 9 immersion students (our current grade 7 and 8 early and late immersion classes who will be in grade 8 and 9 next year). Mount Pearl Intermediate's next School Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7 at 7pm.

Villanova Junior High's Badminton club will go ahead today (January 31st) after school. Make sure you have your ride arranged for pick-up at 3:30.

Saturday night -Snow at times heavy. Amount 10 to 20 cm. Wind north 50 km/h gusting to 80 becoming northwest 40 gusting to 60 overnight. Extensive blowing and drifting snow. Temperature steady near minus 1.

Sunday -Cloudy, flurries end with blowing snow. Gusty winds NW up to 70km/h. High minus 1.

Monday -Mostly cloudy. High 1.

Provincial Cancellations
Due to adverse weather conditions, The Rooms will be closed for the day Saturday,
January 21.

Eastern Health advises the public of the following service changes for Saturday, January 21, due to adverse weather:
The community walk-in clinic, located at 50 Mundy Pond Rd, St. John's, will be closed.
The collaborative team clinic centre, located at 7 Pippy Place, St. John's, will be closed.
The COVID-19 vaccination clinic for children aged six months to 11 years old at Mount Pearl Square will be closed. Clients will be contacted to reschedule their appointments. In addition, clients may rebook online at www.gov.nl.ca/covid-19/vaccine/gettheshot/.
In addition, the planned closure of both the external and internal entrances to the emergency department at the Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, January 22, has been postponed. This closure will now be in effect as of Sunday, January 28.
Emergency services continue to be available at all sites during adverse weather.

Municipal Cancellations
The 24-Hour Parking Restriction will be in effect outside the Designated Downtown Area and Business District starting 7:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023.
On-street parking is prohibited 24-hours a day until the restriction is lifted. Vehicles parked on the road during this time may be ticketed or towed.

All recreation facilities operated by the City of St. John's that were closed for the day on Saturday and Sunday morning will open at noon on Sunday. The Loop at Bannerman Park will also be in operation at noon.

Due to the weather, all Town of Paradise recreational facilities, including the Paradise Double Ice Complex and the Fitness Centre, are closed for the day Saturday, January 21. Visit www.paradise.ca/closures for updates.

All St. Johns Public Libraries are closed on Saturday. Digital Library is available at https://digitallibrary.nlpl.ca

Metrobus and GoBus services in the metro area are not operating on Saturday.

United Church services on Sunday at Cochrane Street, Gower Street and at First United Church in Mount Pearl have been cancelled.

The Rooms have reopened for regular Sunday hours from noon until 5 p.m. and their parking lots have been cleared.

Business Cancellations
The Ches Penney Family YMCA and the Marystown YMCA (including all programs and services) are closed Jan. 21 due to the impending storm.

The St. John's Arts and Culture Centre is closed for Saturday, January 21. An update on re-opening will be provided Sunday.

Please be advised that due to current weather conditions, NLC Liquor Stores in St. John's, Mount Pearl, Paradise and CBS will remain closed for the day.
